Calmare

Calmare is the north, between Nicos and lish Taiho.

The Calmare empire is the most power nation on nightkord seconed only to illeve in power and wealth.

They Controll the trade that goes threw the Dragonreach sea and beacuse it is the shorest way to get to the other side of the continent, it is a very popular route. on the eastern side of the Dragonreach where the sea connects to the river Kinve, stands the largest city in nighkord, Mercer. Mercer boasts the increadble population of 80,000 people. then if you follow Kinve to the east you see again a show of the calmare empires power, the Fortress Neulis. The fortress is the main base for the army of calmare which is the largest army in nightkord agasint seconded only to Illeve's Army.

another city of note in Calmare are Kinvera, setteled where the river Kinve meets with the Ocean Kision. Kinvera has a population of 21,000, which is nothing compared to Mercer but a large population on its own.

Mercer
Population 80,000
The city Mercer has many parts of that that need to be in place to make such a large city work.

Fisrt off the the city guard, refered to as the hope seekers.
There story is that many years ago a guild of people started up one day in an attempt to rid the city of the corruption that had infested it. they say the officials and the gaurds as being corrupt, they saw this as a problem with the society as a whole and set out on a mission to reclaim hope for the society, by weeding out the bad elements. There numbers were small at first trying to operate in system that works agasint you sint easy. Then the got the support of a duke, who they stoped an assignation attempt of. This helped them take off and eventually become such a powerful force that they replaced the guard and the officalls they saw as corrupt. Since that time they have sword loyality to the city and its laws and still workday today to uphold the scoeity. They still use the name hope seekers because for them, it is a duty without end. The hope seekers have also replaced the royal gaurd. there jsut that good.

The Blacksmiths guild
This is a guild of blacksmiths that operates in Mercer, every blacksmith that works in mercer is a member of this guild that protects the rights and the intrestest of the blacksmithing profession. Many normal people do not see what the guild dose and see it as a way for the blacksmiths in the city to cheat others out of money. Given the guild does have some practices that border on controlling the market, they do many others things then cheat people out of money. The hadle large contracts for the army of Calmare, as well as teaching the art of blacksmitheing. They own and operate mines, which they protect and they supply quite fairly, these mines provide jobs for many people that othersiwe would not have them, and there schools that teach blacksmithing ensure that merser stays on top of the trade. But people do not see these things. The guild blacksmiths never buy materials by themselves, they all buy them from the guild. Which does infact buy materials at a reduced price. If you come to mercer selling armor, instead of the normal rules, half price for selling, you will have to be happy with less then half price (%60). So take %60 off the price and that is how much you would get for selling it anywhere in mercer. But on the good side they sell everything at normal price. When selling materials in Mercer, remember they really don’t need to buy anything at all.

The Mercer Theives
The Mercer theives have been bitterally fought agasint and many times there organization has been crippeled almost mortally. but each time it comes back with new strength and new leadership. beacuse genereally when it is hurt bad, the leader is killed by the hope seekers. The Mercer theives were last mortally wounded 25 years ago when the leader was killed when the hope seekers decided to cave in the sweres he was hideing in. 4 years after that ir rose from the ashes and has been going strong ever sence. no one knows who the leader of the Mercer theives is at this point. however many think that the old leader was infact not killed in the cave it, that he lives on and runs now more carefully then ever.

Alco Tower
once there was a powerful warlord named Alco, he was trying to controll all of the region. in the year -900 he summoned demons to aid him in this cause. this of corse got many people mad at him. so he was killed, but the various demons that were in controll of the tower were jsut a little too powerful to be taken out quite as easyly. so the tower stood on, with demons everyonce in a while makeing an attack on the surrounding areas. when the calmare empire was established in -852, the set up bourders and kept the demons in there tower. untill Duke Malernal decided to take controll of the tower and make it his base of opperations in the year 1542. since then no demon attacks have been reported. it is unknown weather Duke Malernal killed all the demons or jsut beat them to submission, eather way the area is happy beacuse the demons are no longer a problem.

Duke Malernal
Duke Malernal was born into a royal family jsut about 1000 years ago. at a young age he sshowed an expectional aptatude for magic and was sent to a magical school in the city of Smara in Bathraheim. he studeid there and became a power wizard, but he left the school beacuse he eventually decided the school had nothing left to teach him. so he went out into the world looking for new and strange magic to master. the year he left the school was 1302, the next time anyone saw him was in the year 1482, he was unaged and much more poweful then anything anyone had ever seen. He refuses to talk about the 180 years he was missing, but when asked how he isnt ageing his answer will be "study magic as long as i do, and you will be abel to asnwer that for yourself". he has been involved in many inriges over the years and eventually took over alco tower. Since that time he has switched back and forth threw many different things, sometimes idsappering for 10 years at a time. recentally he has attempted to make freinds with the king Avertis. many suspect he is trying to marry the kings daughter Inana and become the new emperor beachse Avertis does not have a heir. despite apperaing calm and well manored, Malernals goals are Emperorship and godhood.


The forest Lume
Long ago the elven kingdom of Nymaevel controlled the areas now known as Nicos and Calmare. In fact the Modern city of Mercer was the seat of government for the Kingdom of Nymaevel, only they called it Lamercer. The Kingdom of Nymaevel was destroyed by an invasion force that came threw one of the portals they had opened to another demesion, the following battle is the cause of the Plain of dust that is right in the middle of Calmare. There are two places that remain of the old elven kingdom, one is the forests on the otherside of the iron lich moutians, the other is the forest Lume.

The Black Falls
Comeing from the iron lich moutians there is a river that is so rich with minerals the water is literally black. Many years ago an elven artisan made the blackfalls into a work of art. With places to observe the falls for visiters and places to look down at the falls from above, he even had a structure carved into the stone to the sides of the falls, and behind it. many years after it was made things from below the surface started working there way up in the the structure that was carver behind the falls. Naturally the structure was closed off and partially caved in so the things could never get out. This appears to have worked and the creatures have since giving up there intentions, whatever they were. But the damage to the structure was too great and it could never be opened again. But it still remains one of the most beautiful places on nightkord, and people visit there the incone from the turists supports a small town a little under a days walk from the falls.
