one day in a myth and reasearch class, the teacher ( i forget his name) was jsut ranting away, and somewhere in the ranting i heard the worlds "The ivory Towers of Bathraheim" i went to him and asked what that was, and he had no idea and infact didnt remember saying it at all!!!
since then i think i may have misheard him, i think the original sentance might have been
"the ivroy towers, and bethlem" but i will never know for sure, but that is what i think about it now.
so i decided to make in a country in the DnD setting i was makeing at the time.

People in Bathraheim:
Races and Cultures:
The most common race in Bathraheim is the humans, and with a close second, the elves. But many people of many different kinds call Bathraheim home. In the cities there are wizards and scholars, and most of the common races. But out in the wild there are the barbarians and many other wild peoples such as Orcs and Goblins, in the Bathra mountains that are a few clans of dwarves. The most unique race that Bathraheim has in it is a race called the karsinus. The karsinus were the leaders of the refugees before they came into the Samra valley so many years ago. The karsinus are renown for they magic mastery and there intelligence.
In the more civilized parts of Bathraheim it is a mixing pot of many cultures and many peoples, the same with many of the larger cities in the world, but out in the wilderness power and strength rule. There are some areas such as Kagra where both of these extremes meet. Long ago the wizards of Bathraheim have learned to get along very well with the barbarians in the wilderness; they both respect each other and value each others different ways of thinking. This kind of thinking is what makes Bathraheim one of the most advanced places in the world.
Life and society:
The people of Bathraheim are a combination of wizards and barbarians the wizards have giant cities and the barbarians have tribes that roam the country side in there old nomadic lifestyle. The more common folk of the land have a balance between these 2 groups. The people are respectful of old tradition while they are knowledgeable of the magic of the wizards. Most people that live in Bathraheim claim to have come from one of these 2 groups. Because of the wizards in Bathraheim magic is very common, and people that live here are very accustomed to seeing strange things that would scare most people of other nations. They are hard works are perfectly suited to there lives in this moderate climate. They view the number 5 as unlucky, and they have many traditions that people still follow today.
Bathraheim is one of the most advanced places in the world, as well as the most powerful. The wizards have harnessed powerful magic and have made ships and buildings float in the air. When times of need come up the wizards and the barbarians gather once more to decide on a plan and outfit the standing army with weapons. The barbarian tribes are considered the standing army of Bathraheim and no one can successfully attack Bathraheim with out getting the attention of the standing army. The wizards make magic weapons for the barbarians and the barbarians use these weapons to fight for Bathraheim. It is a relationship made out of respect. There is another group of law enforcers in Bathraheim named the Bathra loyalty, which upholds a set of laws that are for the common good. It is very rare that this group has to take large actions because everyone knows the laws and respects them because they were made by Bathra at the start of the nation. Since Bathra made these laws that has been no need to change them
The Government
The government of Bathraheim works in an odd style, but it works. There are 2 councils, the council of the mages, and the council of the tribes. These 2 councils each select a leader that can speak for them. The leader of the councils then reports to the emperor, and the emperor makes the choice. This is where it gets complex, since both councils agree that no emperor could ever sit in the seat where the great Bathra once sat, an emperor was never set in place after the death of the great Bathra, and he never had any children. So the nation is ruled by the leaders of the 2 councils. This actually works because both people understand the others strengths and weaknesses. The council of mages meets in the ivory tower of government, and the council of barbarians meets in a scared place in the valley Samra. The 10 ivory towers are separated as such: one for each school of magic, one for the prison, and one for the government.
Regional History:
The birth of modern Bathraheim started when refugees fled from the expansion of the Deflzimne Empire (which was ruled by the Tayori) into what is know now as the Samra valley. These refuges were ruled by a race of people called the karsinus. The karsinus were powerful wizards and were kind to there people teaching them the importance of magic and its uses. In the Samra valley the refuges meet the barbarians that lived there. These two groups fought, there wars for dominance lasted for a long time, until the Deflzimne empire attacked and over ran them both, the occupation of the Samra valley lasted for a little over 70 years. Until a great leader named Bathra rose from the tribes of the barbarians and united them against the Deflzimne. Many leaders have tried this but this leader decided to include the refugees in his revolution. With the combines powers of the barbican tribes and the wizards the two fought back the Deflzimne become the first nation in the entire world to hold back the expansion of the Deflzimne. They stayed as a free nation for many years under the Tayori assault but the warfare tactics that they employed ensured that the Deflzimne never got a foot hold in the Samra valley. Eventually the Deflzimne tried to fulfill the first part of the prophecy of NightKord and they tinted the night sky purple. All the nations of the world combined forced the crush the Deflzimne Empire and once again the group of wizards and barbarians fought against the Deflzimne Empire. In the closing days of the Tayori war, it was the group of wizards and barbarians that decided to turn the most prosperous lands of the Deflzimne in to a desert. The grate leader Bathra set up the current government that still rules today, but he named his nation Garneis. After his death the people of the nation decided to name the nation Bathraheim, translated as the land that Bathra saved.
Major cities in Bathraheim
Samra: Samra is a large city that is made in the middle of Lake Samra. The city consists of 2 islands and 10 towers; the city has 4 levels the first one at water level. The other 3 are below water level. The water is held back with giant thick unbreakable walls. 10 towers rise above everything in the city. One tower for each of the schools of magic, one for the government of Bathraheim, and one for the prison. The prison tower is at the lowest level in the city, many magical
enchantments have been placed on the prison tower, and it said to contain some of the most powerful strangest things that ever existed. Many of these strange things that are imprisoned no one knows about but the lowest cell in the tower is used to contain the powerful Tayori wizard named Yaddishin. Yaddishin was the last emperor of the Deflzimne Empire, in the war Bathraheim captured him. Just capturing him alone cost many Bathremi lives. The Bathremi people refer to Yaddishin's capture as the capture of the dark emperor. He has been alive in the prison tower for a little over 2000 years, and the Bathremi people don’t see a reason to end his imprisonment now. He is kept in the lowest part of the prison power, behind powerful magic seals. People in the city Samra go around on small personal boats, a lot of the people in the city live on there boats, but a lot of the buildings are on the 2 islands. The first island is on sea level, the second island is one level lower then sea level. There are also many smaller towers that have homes in them. Samra is one of the most wondrous in NightKord today.
