i am incharge of the steampunk aspect in amael
here is how steampunk generally feels in the DnD setting.
steampunk is higher level technology then most people (expect lordkain) are used to in DnD. but its not normal technology, its technology that has developed in a world where magic and others forms of power are prevelent. and in a lot of cases wrok better then technology for the things technology would traditionally do.
so steampunk needs some things around it.
first of off there need to be pipes, hot water powering things, and lightning rods that transpher power to giant vats that boil water to turn large steam powered turbines to do thing things that turbines do. think of jules verns level of technology when you think of how i think steampunk should work in amael.
in the steampunk source book that ill be partiually useing they refer to the worlds of machines and steam as "Steamcraft"
the uses of steamcraft in the world as far as we need to go.
certianlly trains are possible with steampower, as they were possible in the real world. but trains cant be common, as far as would could put it only the most wealthy cities would offer train like things as transportation. and in the case that they do, they would only use trains to get from one end of the city to the other beacuse cities in amael float.
zeplins are also common in steampunk settings, but in amael the highest forms of elegance in travel is the awe inspireing air ships, that float with the use of magic infused stones mined from the tallest montians. but for those that want to transport themslves and larger things on a budget there are always the zeplins.
industry with steampunk will take the place of what the common man would do in such a soceity. the common man would be a factory worker in the industral cities. sadly this is something that generally accompanies higher levels of technologies. with the lack of farmable land in amael, the common man will stead be a factory worked instead of a farmer, all other jobs exist normally even farmers exist but due to the lesser land in smaller numbers.
in the lower levels of steamcraft technology that im thinking we would use, firearms would be popular but not overpowering. cannons however should have a larger place in the ship mounted area.
