I noticed while perusing this recent acquisition of mine that the failed to give their core classes base HD so to correct this oversight I went and reverse engineered their HD from the Sample Chars they presented. calculations and results are as follows:
Example Crusader HD 4 con mod +2 averaged HP 29
29-8 con mod = 21- 8 (do not question it, I tested this with 10 (Paladin) and 6 and resulting average was too high and too low respectively) = 13 / 2 remaining HD yields average of 4.3 repeating (closest to average I managed a 10 yields 3.6 repeating (average for d10 is 5.5) and a 6 yields an average of 5 when average for d6 is 3.5)
Example Sword Sage HD 6 con mod +3 averaged HP 49
49 - 18 con mod = 31 - 8 = 23/5 = 4.6 aprox average for d8
Example Warblade HD 5 con mod +4 averaged HP 53
53 - 20 con mod = 33 - 10 = 23/4 = 5.75 aprox average for a d10
now there are those of you who claimed a Warblade gets a d12
that formula works out as follows
53 - 20 con mod = 33 - 12 = 21/4 = 5.25 1.25 below average d12 and farther then the .25 discrepancy from a d10
I can see where the assumption comes from though, in the description of these classes it tells you what starting age to treat them as which could have been easily extrapolated to assume it meant HD as well. the only place this assumption would be correct is with the sword sage and that seems to be merely coincidence as the crusader would have a d10 and a warblade a d12 under this assumption and the math says otherwise.
in Summation
Crusader d8
Sword Sage d8
Warblade d10
Incidentally this revelation makes the warblade more balanced as it is basically a Specialized Fighter with a smaller bonus feat list and fewer bonus feats
