Book One: Before the Coming of the Beastlands
Nearly 400 miles off the east coast of Quel'Shar is the island of Lycanthral. Known through out the land for the various tribes of lycanthropes that live and thrive there. Also known for the supply of mithral and adamantine mined in the central mountains. The land mass is over 200 miles across from east to west and over twice that distance from north to south. The island's center contains mountains rich in rare metals. The north half of the island is dominated by jungle and swamp while the south half contains great open savana grass lands.
Scattered around the island are dozens if not hundrens of ancient ruins to a now extinct civilization. These ruins date back to well before the dark war. According to ancient texts recovered from those ruins Lycanthral was once called "Thermadora" From what has been gleamed from the ancient text the original or at least previous inhabitants of the island was a culture of warrior women. According to the texts the society scorend men and excluded them entirly.
The society was a warrior based, valuing and taking great pride in martial skill. The deity the worshiped was known only as the Matron Mother. Some evidence suggests they also worshiped Aryn Rose and Narnia. The various tribes would sometimes war and feud but these conflicts never led to the out right destruction or conquest of another tribe.
Now a civilization of only women would die out with out contact wth men of course to solve this, on a yearly bases the warrior women would sail to the main land in order to capture men to father the next generation. There soceity
This accounted collaborated by history texts about mysterious warrior women who used to sail into ports on the eastern coast and seducing and abducting the young men.
While many believed male children were killed shortly after birth. New evidence suggests however that the warrior women developed a magic so that only female children could be born.
Shortly after the dark war, lycanthropes of all kinds began to congregate together. Hoping to build there own nation and have a homeland of there own. The place they found was Themadora. Around the time the lycanthropes started leaving for there new home land the raids by the warrior women became less regular. After a century it stopped completly.
It is belived that the tribes of warrior women started breeding with the new “local” men as it was a much swifter trip then one to the main land. Eventually giving up the trip entirly
This is where they likely ran into problems. Many of these daughters would have inherited the fathers lycanthrope abilities. This may led to inner conflict with in the tribes of warrior women. The first being young amazon who inherited Lycanthropy would have a clear advantage over the young warriors her own age. Especially if she came from the bear or tiger variety. She would owe this great strength to her father and not her mother. As such many young women in the amazon tribes wanted to learn about there lycanthrope powers form there father. Many lycanthrope fathers wanted to be a part of raising there daughters.
The second part was the amazon tribes had little knowledge of the working of Lycanthropy. One report shows that a tribe with a weretiger daughter named Vala had bitten one of her “sisters” a term used for all members of the same tribe. When the moon of Omara became full it became apparent she had contracted lycanthropy. The tribe believing they could control this power intentionally became infected in droves. They soon discovered that they could not fully control themselves in the transformed state. After demolishing there village they appealed to Vala’s father for help in controling there power. To there dismay they learned an afflicted could never fully control there power, but natural borns could keep afflicteds from going out of control. Vala’s tribe ended up joining her fathers and becoming one. The lycanthropes never shared that there was a cure for their condition however. Likly to maintain a superior edge for control of the island.
As was inventible wars started between lycanthrope tribes and amazon tribes. Many tribes of amazons did not know a lycanthrope venerability to silver. Fewer still had enough silver to make weapons out of, or produce alchemical silver.
It is not exactly known how the amazon culture died out. While war is one factor. There is not evidence of a full scale conflict. Some of these were started by the lycanthrope women who were angry at the amazons for stealing the men folk. Bringing a the term “cat fight” to a whole new level.
Today in lycanthral women have equal status with men in almost every tribe. This is either the result of the amazons intergrating into the tribe or what attracted them into joining in the first place.
It could be said the end of the amazon tribes was inevitable the moment they stopped going to the main land for men to father the next generation. Eventually an entire tribe of amazons would be come natural born lycanthropes simply by the growing number from the previous generation.
Most scholars believe that this integration led the amazons to abandon there old faith and take up the more primal and animal spirit based worship of the lycanthropes. In a lycanthrope tribe there is little place for a deity that promotes on gender over another when all are equal for they all share the boon of lycanthropy.
