I was looking though races of stone and found this Dwarf PrC Battlesmith. Is a short five level PrC. The interesting thing is a Fighter who takes this PrC can then make magical armor and weapons WITH OUT any casting ability. Now they still must meet the other preq's which might require the help of another caster to supply it.
The can gain a scared bonus to there armor class when wearing any heavy armor they forged themselves. As well as gaining the ability to add there wisdom bonus to weapon damage rolls with any weapon they forged themselves.
So a 7th level fighter 5th level Battlesmith has a caster level of 15 for the purposes of crafting magic arms and armor. (you multiply the battlesmith level by 3 and add that to any other caster level) They still may need a helping cleric or wizard if they want a flaming weapon or calling armor but its still really cool.

Hey if my Swashbuckler has to leave because of moral issues, I think i'd like to play a Fighter/Battlesmith. I've already written up a base character as a Gold Dwarf, (because gold dwarves can take the Metallurgy which adds +3 to craft checks related to weapons and armor.

It does look like a good book, and you should be able to pick it up at shinders or Barnse and Noble. I haven't been able to look it up yet however.
Feh. like I have any free time anymore.
